One drawback of Wacom tablet pens is that the rubber grip deteriorates over time, becoming slick and sticky with age. Replacing the worn rubber grip with a wooden one keeps the surface from slipping even when your hands sweat, maintaining a firm, confident feel during long work sessions. The wood grain gives the grip a visually substantial presence, yet it is actually about 40% lighter than the rubber grip — reducing strain on your fingers and hand.
Wood species: Enju (Japanese Pagoda Tree / Sophora japonica) A broadleaf hardwood of the Leguminosae family, native to Hokkaido. Known in the Ainu language as "chikupeni," it is considered the tree in which the most powerful tree spirit (kamuy) of the Ainu people dwells. A slow-growing species, it is dense and tightly grained. The name "enju" (槐) is associated with "延寿" (longevity) in Japanese, making it a wood of good fortune; in the Tohoku region, the character 槐 has also long been used as a charm against evil spirits. When polished carefully, it develops a beautiful sheen. Historically used as the haft of an adze (chouna) — a craftsman's tool — it transmits force faithfully along its grain, producing a grip with a firm, precise feel.
