Wazai Wood Grip - Jindai Zelkova

Wood species: Jindai Keyaki (Ancient Buried Zelkova)

"Jindai-moku" (ancient buried wood) refers to trees buried underground by volcanic eruptions and similar events. Over hundreds to thousands of years, the wood gradually transforms in color — from its original tone, through brown, to dark grey, and finally to black.

The zelkova used here belongs to a variety called "midori-jindai" (green buried zelkova), which has taken on a distinctive grey-green hue while retaining much of the beautiful original grain of the zelkova. Please enjoy the subtle green nuance that emerges within the dark grey tones.

Zelkova is naturally hard and heavy — qualities that can make it tiring to hold. However, as it carbonizes through the jindai process, its resinous components dissipate, and it becomes remarkably soft to the touch and surprisingly light. The result is a grip that looks substantial but feels light, resisting fatigue even during extended work sessions.

The barrel shape can be customized beyond the standard profile to include wide-diameter, triangular, and hexagonal options, so you can choose the one that best suits your grip style.
